5 Foundational Steps to Gaining Skills For Your Big Goals

Did you know that the secret to accomplishing ALL your goals is a simple matter of having the right habits?

Today I am going to share how to identify what skills that you need and how to attain them, so you can make the accomplishment of your goals automatic.

If you follow the success, motivation, or even entrepreneur scenes you will hear countless pros talk about habits, goals, mindset, and a whole myriad of other things that help you accomplish your dreams.

Now hopefully you had a chance to read my most recent blog where I discussed the 3 hacks to automate your goals, but if you didn’t you can still go check it out.

In that blog, I discussed the parts of your mind that help you automate your goals. If you didn’t read that yet, check it out because it provides context into what I’ll be discussing in this post.

Now, that you had a chance to catch up let’s get back to it.

In this post I will be sharing the 5 things that you will need to do, so you can build the foundation for your biggest dreams, goals, and desires.

The First Thing

Find your positive state of mind. There are a ton of different ways to look at the state of your mind, but I really enjoyed the perspective of Author and Research Psychologist Carol Dweck. In her book “Mindset” she discussed two types of mindsets. The growth mindset and the fixed mindset.

Growth Mindset

·       Focused on learning as a reward

·       Belief that talent is not a predictor to long term success

·       Positive outlook and effort are the hallmarks of the most successful

·       More willing to try things and more resilient if they are not perfect the first time

Fixed Mindset

·       Believe one must be talented for it to be worth exerting effort into skills

·       Easily discouraged if not good at tasks

·       Has a difficult time stepping outside of their comfort zone

·       Most often ends up becoming unhappy with circumstances

Dweck’s research has yet to be confirmed within the scientific community, yet in my experience coaching others, I have found that the people that align with the beliefs associated with a growth mindset typically do achieve more than the latter.

The great news for you is that if you currently have a fixed mindset, you are not stuck with it!

You can change it!

AND it’s not really your fault for developing it. Society forces this attitude on us unintentionally!

The Second Aspect

Create your goals!

As simple as this sounds, it truly isn’t so simple. I help people accomplish this at the beginning of every new relationship.

As I discussed in my last blog we as humans need rewards.

Setting goals is unfortunately not enough.

Goals without focus and clarity make for time-wasting and frustration.

This brings me to our third aspect

The Third Aspect

Check your goals against the S.M.A.R.T model.

Specific

Measurable

Attainable

Relevant

Time Focused

This framework will help you align and focus on your goals, while also helping you stack them into building blocks.

Fourth Aspect

Write down all of the skills that you will need so you can accomplish the goals you’ve set.

Make a list

This helps you gauge everything you need to work on and allow you to prioritize what’s most relevant.

Fifth Aspect

Now that you have a checklist of skills and some organization around your goals its time to build habits.

Habits are required for skill acquisition.

Forming the right habits allows us to excel because our habits require less focus and energy to perform.

This simple 5 step framework is the foundation for accomplishment and success.

Master this foundation and you will be well on your way to finding success while feeling as if it is effortless.

It is important to remember that these 5 steps are only the foundation.

There are a few more things you will need to truly have your goals set to autopilot.

If you have not worked with a coach recently or ever, I would recommend considering it because a coach can help you take this foundation and turn it into jet fuel.

At the very least…
