3 Benefits You Get When Working With A Coach That You Aren’t Getting On Your Own
Hey, what's up everyone Michael Freeman here with Michael Freeman Coaching.
Today I am going to share with you the 3 biggest reasons that you should consider working with a coach.
I feel like a lot of people misunderstand why you'd want to work with a coach, which is why I’ve decided to share with you a few reasons you might want to consider working with one AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!
Honestly, there are more than just 3 benefits, but I’m going to focus on the following 3.
1. Habits will either make you or break you
2. People believe what they tell themselves
3. All successful people have a coach
The first thing I want everyone to understand is that you have, at some point in your life, worked with a coach. Google defines coaching as:
Here are some examples of where you might have experienced coaching:
· Sports
· The classroom
· Mentor
· Parents
· Friend
· Boss
· Co-worker
· Counselor
· While a member of a group or other team
· Military
Many people believe that they have never worked with a coach before, but if you look at the above list you may realize that you have.
The purpose of coaching is to help you identify how you can adapt effort to produce a result. This is accomplished through asking questions, observing, and providing open and honest feedback in order to produce a successful result.
Coaching today is growing, yet people oftentimes feel that they don't need help and sometimes that’s true, but more often than not you’re lying to yourself. Fear takes over and you choose to not try…
This is what I hear from people all the time. The majority of my clients tell me that they are afraid to fail.
What they don’t realize is not wanting to try is a habit loop that keeps them where they are comfortable.
Your Habits are the differentiator to your overall success
I see and hear people succumbing to the fear of being judged. They don’t want to FEEL like they aren’t good enough. They are judging themselves by comparing themselves to others.
This is what you probably tell yourself -
“If I try and I don't achieve then I'm not good enough which I already knew that I good enough, to begin with… So, what was the point of trying in the first place.”
That's a really big problem because there's literally no one that is soooo talented that they didn’t have to work their face-off to become the best…to become great.
Even the talented have to put blood, sweat, and tears into their goals.
Take your career for example. Most people aren’t happy in their careers.
In fact, the Gallop organization surveys thousands of workers annually finding that at best 38% of American workers are satisfied with their work but on average it’s closer to 32%.
THAT'S A HUGE PERCENTAGE of people that wish they were doing something else and why you ask? Because you got comfortable!
You took a job that you didn’t hate, paid you enough to make ends meet, and provided a schedule that you can live with. When humans get comfortable, they stop really trying to achieve more, and then they just kind of sit there…
Then at some point, people realize that being unhappy sucks and when people realize this they most often choose to concede to their misery or make very small steps towards a happier life and take any small win as a sign to return to that comfortable feeling their unhappiness disrupted.
Going after big dreams, happiness, joy, and love take an enormous amount of effort and today it’s far too easy to get discouraged and quit.
Coaching will help you fight the status quo and avoid comfortable.
Coaching helps you discover the types of habits that you need to build into your life to produce the skills necessary to reach your goals.
Habits = skills and skill acquisition = results
Habits | Skills | Results
It doesn't matter if you’re trying to lose weight or if you’re working on your next big job promotion.
If you can build the right habits, then you can succeed at any level.
Coaching is the difference that the most successful people in the world use, so they can perform at the level that their dreams and big goals require.
The broke and unsuccessful on the other hand go it alone and choose the easy way.
People believe what they tell themselves
Going it alone can be really damaging because the little voice in your head will start telling you things like:
“Why do I need to strive I already have what I need.”
“Everything is good enough”
“My life doesn’t need to get better.”
“I’m content.”
This type of mentality is going to keep you wherever you are.
Almost all of the people I work with say these things to themselves and they're always like, “yeah I mean I could do XYZ, but you know it's really hard and I'm really in a good spot right now.”
If you find yourself making similar excuses, then ask yourself this question.
“If this were true, then why are you unhappy?”
Your mind will actively work against you in an effort to protect you.
The truth is that you're not in a good spot right now you just told yourself you were, but you know you're not because you complain about your circumstance.
Working with a coach gives you the ability to see what you do not already see.
Working with a coach helps you realize that anyone that's actually really good at anything got there because they went through the work…they went through the trials…they went through the shift that sucked…
Coaching will help you reframe your challenges, so you feel confident in the actions you’re taking so you can get out of a self-defeating, I'm OK and everything is just good enough mentality and arrive at:
· The everything is not good enough mentality
· I can do better mentality
· I can be more mentality
· I'm willing to try mentality
· I'm willing to fail mentality
· I'm willing to learn just so that way I can be just a little happier mentality
The Big Truth: All Successful People Have A Coach
The coaching industry is growing year over year at a rapid pace…
According to the International Coaching Federation, the industry grew to $2.84 Billion dollars in 2020.
Why do you ask?
Because people are starting to realize and recognize that success isn’t a solo mission. No one can achieve their dreams on their own.
We ALL need help…
We ALL need people on our side to help us understand the process behind our greatest successes.
It's ALL about taking the small steps consistently through habit.
It’s ALL about the wiliness to become better.
The most successful person in your industry knows that they need the right habits, advice, and mindset to:
· Outperform
· Overcome their own bias’
· Validate their assumptions
· Change their habits
· Challenge their thought process
· Build on failures.
The Greatest There Ever Was
I just finished watching my favorite documentary, “The Last Dance.” I love watching people at that level. Michael Jordan is the best in my opinion. The thing that I love about him is not that he was good at what he did, but that he worked harder than everybody else. The film documents the fame, success, and drawbacks of being who he was.
There is no question that Jordan had talent, but if he didn't work as hard as he did he wouldn't have been as good as he was.
People also look at the end result thinking that it all happened overnight. Even reading this right now, you know that it’s total bullshit to think dreams happen easily and without hard work, yet you are still probably stuck, selling yourself reasons for not going after them.
Michael’s drive to become the best has been well documented and serves as the differentiator between average or good and being the very best. HIS PASSION drove him through the challenges, pain, and fear. He loved what he did and if you can find that love then you will find the secret in being able to snuff out that little voice that’s trying to keep you safe and comfortable.
As a coach, I help people figure out what they love because if you're in a job or a situation that you don't love then you will not bring your best self.
If you can't bring your best, then you're never going to get great and if you're never going to get great, you're going to stay mediocre and unhappy.
Why should all this matter to you?
You are meant for more and you can achieve goals that seem impossible today.
The difference between your best life, the best athletes, the wealthiest, and the most powerful is what you think is possible for you and what you’re willing to do to succeed.
Listen, I’m not suggesting you hire a coach, but what I am suggesting is that you are someone that has the skills and capabilities to help you move your life in the direction of your potential. If you don’t know of someone then feel free to hit me with a message or schedule a short strategy call and we can see if my skills can help you achieve your dreams.
